Developing bioengineered barley grains for the future of novel protein production and cellular agriculture
About the Session
ORF has developed a unique production technology that uses bioengineered barley grains as a vehicle for large-scale production of recombinant proteins for cellular agriculture. By nature the barley seed has a powerful protein machinery that also provides a long-term, safe storage for bioactive proteins. Therefore, recombinant proteins can be scaled up with tremendous speed and economy in bioengineered barley grains, and without CAPEX-demanding operations associated with conventional bioreactors. ORF aims at offering up to 1000x cost reduction of animal growth factors, making the cell-cultured meat a more viable option in near future.
