2023 Conference Session

Panel Discussion: Global Harmonization for Cellular Agriculture Regulations
About the Session
Many countries are actively establishing regulatory approval pathways for cultured meat, with the USA potentially closest to following Singapore and Israel in allowing the human consumption of cultivated meat products. But moves are afoot in the EU, Australia/New Zealand, the UK and Canada, to name a handful. With the global food system being broken, leaving billions of people either underfed or overweight and driving the planet towards climate catastrophe, cultured meat offers a global solution to the problem. However, to accelerate progress and make it simpler for the industry's innovators, should we not be looking for regulatory harmonization, where regulatory authorities align technical requirements for the development and marketing of cellular agriculture products? This is an angle of the cultivated meat conversation that is sorely lacking in discussions right now.
