The European Union Novel Food Regulation
About the Session
The presentation will provide an overview of the European Union Novel Food Regulation (EU 2015/2283). Novel foods are those foods without a significant history of consumption in the EU before 17 May 1997.
The authorisation to place novel foods on the EU market involves the submission of an application with data on the production, composition, specifications, and safety, an evaluation by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and the eventual authorisation of the novel food by the European Commission and its inclusion in the Union list of authorised novel foods.
