2023 Conference Session

Best practices for safeguarding the fermentation process in a newly regulated industry
Speakers
About the Session
Unwanted contaminations in liquid, air, gas, or steam fed to a bioreactor can ruin a fermentation or cultivation process and force manufacturers to scrap considerable amounts of valuable product. This presentation will be based on historic Donaldson expertise in removal of those unwanted contaminants and will discuss the best practices for achieving a sterile fermentation process and how these best practices relate to evolving industry regulatory standards. Main topics to be discussed: process filtration basics, novel separation technologies for proteins, case study of fermentation liquid media filtration, comparison and trade-offs of common sterile processing solutions, and discussion of current regulatory standards for the food manufacturing industry and how they will be enforced for new food manufacturers in the future.
