As ananimal rights organization, GAIA Belgium has an extensive track record,which includes questioning the large-scale industrial production andconsumption of meat. The organization was founded in 1990 by Ann De Greef andMichel Vandenbosch. In 2019, GAIA decided to also work actively on the topic ofcultured meat.

GAIA andEurogroup for Animals organized in April 2022 a high-level symposium on ‘TheEvolution of Food: Towards Animal-Free and Sustainable Technology” in the RoyalBelgian Institute of Natural Sciences in the European capital Brussels. 

As one ofthe partners of the Green Deal Protein Shift, GAIA is having a social impactstudy carried out which examines the scenarios for the impact of alternativeproteins on employment, the impact on agriculture, social acceptance...

Thesestudies raise very interesting issues. Every change in an installed systemcomes with opportunities and challenges. GAIA likes to reach out to all partiesinvolved to engage in constructive cooperation and exchange useful informationwith each other.
