With financing and transaction activity in the alternative proteins industry slowing in 2022 due to the unfavourable global economic environment, there has never been a more challenging time in this nascent industry to secure funds. Early-stage companies have numerous financing options involving debt, equity or a mixture of both. Deciding on the best option requires careful consideration and will be influenced by a number of factors, including a company’s growth profile, asset base and profitability. But are there other options for startups?

In this panel discussion, industry experts will share their insights and expertise on innovative financing mechanisms for scaling up the production of alternative proteins. It will bring together a distinguished panel of professionals from DSM Venturing, the European Innovation Council, Big Idea Ventures, Jellatech, and BERA to explore the unique challenges and opportunities in financing the industrial-scale production of alternative proteins.  It will examine solutions from both pharma and renewable energy to provide an actionable framework for how to finance large scale, first-of-its-kind production facilities with sources of capital other than heavily dilutive and expensive venture capital.

During the panel discussion, each expert will offer their perspectives and experiences in financing alternative protein projects. Pieter Wolters from DSM Venturing will provide insights into venture capital funding and the role of strategic partnerships.
